Hyper-local Heraldry
2025
A series of ceramic shields, glazed in blue-black on the front and painted in oil on the reverse, each measuring approximately 13 × 17 inches
This series draws from my exploration of heraldry in the Anglo-Saxon, French, Japanese, and Indian traditions. Heraldry, as a visual language, serves to identify, protect, and communicate meaning through shapes and symbols rather than words. The shields are meant as protection for particular women close to me and as homage to others I admire. I form these portraits by assembling abstract shapes, patterns, and objects imbued with symbolic significance.
